How will my cat react to a puppy joining the family?

Does anyone have an experience of this? My cat has just turned 1, but he is a friendly cat, and isn't timid at all. The cat is very affectionate, and goes and lies down on new people who have visited our house. He tries to be friendly to all of the cats in our neighbourhood lol:)

We're thinking about getting a puppy, do you think he'll come back home, and not runaway?
